Every year somebody asks me why the loudest tree in the series is built on the most boring tree in the series. Plain green. Sixty dollars. No pink, no rainbow, nothing.
That is exactly the point, and it took me a while to work out why.
Colour needs somewhere to sit
Here is the thing about a hot pink tree, or a rainbow tree, or any tree where the tree itself is the colour: it competes.
Hang a hundred and twenty ornaments in eight different colours on a pink tree and none of them land. Every colour has to fight the background before it can be seen, and what you get is noise instead of maximalism. Those two things look similar in a photo and feel completely different in a room.
Deep green does something colour cannot do for itself. It is dark, so bright colours pop against it. It is neutral in the way a gallery wall is neutral. And it is the colour our eyes already expect a tree to be, which means every single thing you hang reads as a deliberate choice rather than as part of the tree.
Maximalism is not the absence of discipline. It is a lot of colour, controlled. The green is the control.

Unlit matters more here than anywhere
This is an unlit tree, which means you buy six hundred lights separately.
On a colourful tree that is a feature, not a cost. Pre-lit trees come with whatever the factory chose, and factory multicolour lights are almost always harsh — hard reds and electric blues that clash with everything.
Buying your own means warm white underneath the colour, which is the single biggest reason a colourful tree looks styled instead of chaotic. Warm light unifies. Coloured light multiplies.
Where it is honest and where it isn’t
Buyers call this tree well made and easy to assemble and take down, and they like the appearance. Interestingly, several specifically praise the pink variety — this same tree comes in eight colours.
Three mixed notes.
Height. Some buyers say it is not a true six feet. Measure your gap.
Fullness. Some say it looks very full after fluffing, others say not as full as pictured. Both true. The difference is twenty minutes of bending every branch out and up, which most people skip.
Durability. Most report years of use, some report branches breaking off. At sixty dollars that is a fair trade, but it is not forever.
But what about the pink one
Eight colours, and the pink is genuinely lovely.
If you want one bold statement rather than many, buy the pink tree and decorate it in a single accent colour — pink tree, gold ornaments, done. That is a real look and it is easier to pull off than mine.
What does not work is a pink tree plus every colour in the box. That is when the competing starts.
Pick one. Loud tree with quiet decoration, or quiet tree with loud decoration. Both are great. Both at once is a mess.
The bottom line
The most boring tree in the series and the correct foundation for the loudest one. Sixty dollars, plain green, and every colour you hang on it will thank you.
